Insurance for over 500 PCMC employees on eviction drive

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has secured insurance worth Rs 39.70 crore for officials and employees of the anti-encroachment, electricity and drainage departments.

Labour welfare officer Chandrakant Indalkar said: "A letter has been sent to all the civic departments to give information about employees who work in dangerous conditions. The anti-encroachment, electricity and drainage departments have provided the information. The civic body will provide insurance cover to 510 civic employees."

The proposal was approved by the standing committee meeting on Tuesday.

The maximum insurance cover for each Class I and II officers is Rs 15 lakh and the civic body will pay an annual premium of Rs 506 per officer. The maximum insurance for each Class III employee is Rs 10 lakh and the civic body will pay an annual premium of Rs 421 per employee, Indalkar said.

The insurance cover for Class IV employee is Rs 5 lakh with annual premium of Rs 211. Twenty Class I and II officers; 244 Class III employees and 246 Class IV employees will benefit from the cover, he said. The civic body will pay an annual premium of Rs 1.65 lakh to the insurance company for the 510 officers and employees.

"The civic body has also taken insurance cover worth Rs 9.8 crore for 145 employees of the fire brigade for a year at the same rate. These include 51 Class III and 94 Class IV employees. The civic body will pay annual premium of Rs 61,045," he said.

The insurance policy is for accidental death, permanent total disability, permanent partial disability and injury or death in a terrorist attack. The cover has 24-hour worldwide coverage, Indalkar added.
