The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) told the Bombay high court on Friday that it has withdrawn its circular which excluded hospitals with less than 15 beds from medical insurance cover.

A division bench of Justice S J Vazifdar and Justice M S Sonak heard a petition by the Association of Medical Consultants (AMC) challenging the IRDA's February 20 circular.

IRDA's is the regulatory authority for the insurance sector.

advocate Paritosh Jaiswal said as the circular has been withdrawn, the grievance in the petition was over.

But AMC's advocates Avinash Jalisatgi and Robin Fernandes said the association wants to study the implications of the new circular. "We have also challenged the authority of IRDA to take such arbitrary decisions,'' said Jalisatgi.

The judges granted AMC two weeks to decide.
