A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has awarded a compensation of over Rs 19 lakh to the family of a man who died in an accident due to a rashly driven DTC bus.

The tribunal directed United India Insurance Company Ltd, with which the bus was insured, to pay Rs 19,61,920 to the wife, three kids and parents of Balram who was killed in September last year.

Balram (39), a resident of Azamgarh in UP, had boarded the bus near Old Delhi railway station. Driver Tilak Raj, without caring if passengers had boarded the bus, started the vehicle and Balram, who was standing on the footboard, sustained fatal injuries, his family members said.
